Culinary Students Hone Skills While Working with Top Chefs at BCAGlobal Cultural Awareness Salute
NEW YORK, NY: BCAGlobal's Annual Cultural Awareness Salute and Black Tie Gala provides culinary students the opportunity to showcase their talents and network with industry employers. It's at the heart of BCAGlobal's mission to create exposure and provide educational opportunities for culinary and hospitality professionals of color. The event will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at the Crown Plaza Times Square beginning at 7 PM.
In the tradition ofcelebrating food cultural diversity, the theme for this year's event is "Crossing Cultures - Jamaica and South Africa." Students will experience global food cultures while they hone their skills in a real life environment. They will work alongside Tommy Anthony Miller, Executive Chef for PB&J Resorts in Negril, Jamaica and South African born, Charmain Sithappah, CEO and Executive Chef for The Seasoned Pot, who will provide culinary supervision.
"The global landscape of cultural diversity is celebrated through food. By increasing our understanding, we begin to see similarities and not differences," explains Alex Askew, President and CEO of BCAGlobal.

Corporate support provides students with networking opportunities with career professionals. David V. Hunt, nationally recognized for the value of the power of storytelling, will provide the keynote speech. South African Consul General, Honourable George Monyemangene, also among the speakers for the event, will discuss the importance and relevance of the food culture in South Africa.

Rodolfo Contreras, Compass Group-Restaurant Associates' Executive Chef of the Guggenheim Museum will receive the   Jefferson Evans Award.  This year's honoree for the 2014 Lifetime Ambassador Award is Michael Thompson, VP of Conferences, National Urban League and BCAGlobal Board Member Emeritus.
