Earth Day Celebrates 50th Anniversary

This Wednesday, April 22nd, marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. With factories closed, fewer cars on the road and people sheltering at home, skies are cleaner, grass is greener, and animal populations are booming and spreading back out. It is amazing to see a happier planet, if not its human population for a time.

At Planet Grape Wine Review we like to feature wines that come from grapes farmed naturally, sustainably, organically or biodynamically and are produced in non-interventionist methods, as the following do. 2017 Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz Elevated Vineyards McClaren Vale South Australia: $23.
Full, lightly chewy and intense with notes of blueberry, boysenberry, black cherry, chocolate pudding, vanilla bean and cedar.


2018 Loimer Lois Gruner Veltliner Kamptal: $17.
Light, tart, fresh and dry with notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, peach, fennel and white pepper. Certified Organic.


2017 Domaine Michel Magnien Pinot Noir Bourgogne: $30.
Light, tart, fresh and dry with notes of cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, red licorice, violet, cedar and mushroom.


2018 Quibia Falanis Vi de la Terra Illes Balears Mallorca: $20.
Made with local island grapes Callet, Prensal and Giros Ros, this wine is light, supple and dry with notes of lemon curd, hay, coriander seed, beeswax, almond sliver and pistachio.


2016 Valdipiatta Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Toscana: $37.
Fresh, chewy, tart and dry with notes of cranberry, cherry, tomato paste, mushroom, moss, leather and cedar.

2017 Dow Vale do Bomfim Douro Red: $13.
Full, lightly chewy, fresh and dry with notes of cherry, plum, fig, black olive, bay leaf and cedar.


2015 Dow's Late Bottled Vintage Port: $24.
This rich, full and lightly sweet port with notes of chocolate covered cherry, creme de cassis, espresso and black pepper is a rare find - vintage dated but already exposed to some oxygen giving it shelf stability for weeks after opening.
