DATZ Takes Its Talents To Downtown St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The time has come. It’s now T-minus 60 days before Downtown St. Pete can get their hands on Datz’s famous Cheesy Todds and Monkey Bread.

This May, the masterminds behind the nationally renowned and infamously snarky Datz – Suzanne and Roger Perry – will open the first Datz outside of the iconic restaurant’s flagship location in South Tampa. Debuting in the heart of Downtown St. Pete, Datz DTSP will be located at 180 Central Avenue – next-door neighbors with The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art and just steps away from Bay area staples like Al Lang Stadium and the Dali Museum.

“Once we set our sights on Downtown St. Pete, we knew that opening Datz’s second location in this dynamic city was our next move,” says Suzanne Perry. “Following the debut of our new concept, Dr. BBQ, we wanted to provide locals with the edgy and inventive comfort-food dishes they’ve loved since 2009.”

Calling Tampa’s bacon-hoarding carnivores, unapologetic chocolate lovers, and beer geeks, Datz will stick to the original restaurant’s innovative menu with classic dishes like Datchos, housemade sweet ‘n’ salty chips with chili, cheese, blue cheese drizzle and jalapeños; The Cheesy Todd, a ground brisket and short rib burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickle served on two bacon-jalapeño mac ‘n’ cheese “buns;” and Datz-A-Versary Cake, an orange cake with sweet-sweet buttercream frosting celebrating the restaurant’s 10th anniversary.

Designed by Harvard Jolly Architecture, the new eatery mirrors the South Tampa location – from red bricks and reclaimed wood to the restaurant’s classic wine-bottle chandeliers crafted by Suzanne herself. The space will feature an indoor-outdoor bar designed in Datz’s signature orange as well as a patio area for outdoor seating.

What began with the modest idea of a local restaurant that friends and family could call home in January 2009, Datz, quickly transformed into a local favorite and media sweetheart. As Yelp’s most reviewed business in Tampa Bay, Datz has consistently appeared on such local and national media outlets as USA Today, Travel Channel, Cooking Channel, Food Network, FYI and Good Morning America. In 2012, the Perrys formed Datz Restaurant Group (DRG) and opened its second concept, Dough, a from-scratch bakery focused on whimsical sweets, over-the-top confections, baked goods and ice cream. With its quirky charm and unique offerings, Dough has been featured on Donut Showdown and Food & Wine. In 2014, DRG opened Roux, featuring a southern twist on traditional Creole and Cajun dishes consistently named one of Tampa Bay’s Top 50 Restaurants by Tampa Bay Times.

Datz’s highly anticipated second location will be joining DRG’s fourth concept, Dr. BBQ, in St. Pete’s thriving Edge District. Recently named one of Tampa Bay Times’ top 10 local restaurants, the veg-friendly New American-style barbecue eatery recently opened in October 2018 in partnership with BBQ Hall of Famer and Food Network personality Ray “Dr. BBQ” Lampe.
